Artist in Residence

The Artist in Residence programme by kulturen in bewegung enables musicians from the Global South to work on their own projects in Vienna over a period of two to three months. A central aspect of the programme is the creation of safe spaces for artists who work under restrictive or dangerous conditions in their countries of origin, or who live in Europe in exile as a result.

Particular emphasis is placed on networking with local artists, with the aim of fostering sustainable collaborations. The programme focuses on supporting collaborations involving women and individuals with queer identities, who continue to face a music scene that is predominantly male-dominated and Eurocentric.

The kulturen in bewegung residency allows artists to work freely, without the pressure to produce a specific outcome, and is tailored to their individual needs. Artists are provided with access to a production studio as well as organisational support throughout their self-defined artistic process. During the residency, kulturen in bewegung also organises live performances in collaboration with promoters across Austria.
