Authentically Plastic

In 2024, the Artist in Residence program by kulturen in bewegung will take place at the collective space of Palais Rössl. Authentically Plastic, an electronic DJ, producer, artist, performer, essayist from Kampala, Uganda, will work here in May, June, and September.

Between 2018 and 2023, Authentically Plastic organized a series of roving, riotous club nights called ANTI-MASS in Kampala, providing space for femme & queer artists in Uganda's increasingly repressive social climate.

So necessarily, Authentically Plastic’s sound is politically charged, radiating an accelerated, densely layered, and improvisational feel. Their sets, dark yet playful, harbour the same propulsive energy. With Gqom, Noise, and Techno as a foundation, unknown sounds are explored, influenced by rhythms of Northern Uganda (acholi electronic), early acid/industrial experiments, and Afro-Futurism.

Thematically, Authentically Plastic will explore dimensions beyond traditional club contexts, including time-based media, performances, body & trauma, and visuals. Throughout the residency, live performances and networking events are scheduled to facilitate creative and personal exchanges with local artists establishing sustainable connections and collaborations.
