Akademie der bildenden Künste Wien

With the title honoris causa. History Policies at (Art) Universities, the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna launched a public series of events last year in which the academy faces up to its historical responsibility as an educational institution.

Numerous projects have already been carried out that critically examine the practice of teaching and art at the academy during the Nazi era. They were presented to the public for the first time in their entirety in November 2023 and discussed in the context of how other Austrian universities deal with the issue of coming to terms with the historical responsibility of educational institutions.

An event is now following that aims to focus more strongly on individual questions or topics that connect to current debates. The focus is on the contradictions, grey areas and ambivalences in dealing with one's own history and questions of historical politics.
