Furat - Album Release Concert
Musikverein Wien,Gläserner Saal,
Musikvereinsplatz 1, 1010 Wien
Furat is an Arabic female name, an adjective for very sweet water and, of course, the river (Euphrates) that flows in Syria and Iraq. But for Basma Jabr, the word Furat also symbolizes women's voices from this region. With the album of the same name, the Syrian artist sheds light on an exciting era in Arab music from 1920 to 1960, offering a unique collection of songs sung by women at that time.
Basma Jabr, supported by top-class musicians, brings these voices to life in her concert at the Vienna Musikverein and transfers them to the here and now in an extraordinary way. The arranged songs contain traditional Arabic musical elements fused with modern flair, in search of the interface between the past and the future of Arabic music.
This project is a collaboration between Basma Jabr and composer and oud player Mohannad Nasser.
