Lateinamerika Filmfestival 2022

LAFF '22 Filmfestival

29.03. - 11.04.2022
Das Kino Salzburg, Giselakai 1, 5020 Salzburg

The 14th edition of the festival focuses on impressive feature film debuts by a young generation of filmmakers who have discovered new visual languages for themselves and thus open up new perspectives on Latin America.

In bold and imaginative ways, these filmmakers tackle socially relevant issues:  InSin señas particulares, Mexican director Fernanda Valadez processes her own experience of the violence-soaked reality of a country ruled by cartels, which forces thousands of people to migrate. The stirring work won the audience award at the prestigious Sundance Film Festival.
The Swedish-Costarican director Natalie Álvarez Mesén, on the other hand, tells a modern story of emancipation in Clara Sola in a setting removed from time and finds a very poetic visual language for it.

The desire to break new cinematographic ground is omnipresent. The distinction between fiction and documentary is blurred, genre boundaries are dissolved, and new ways of telling stories are tried out: for example, by working through history with mythical elements and borrowings from horror films (La Llorona) or by experimenting with the limitless means of the miracle of cinema (Candela). Director Samuel Kishi achieves a change of perspective when he tells the story of a migrant's fate entirely from the children's point of view in Los Lobos.
