Österreichs kulturelles Erbe – Kollektiv Decolonizing in Vienna!

Book recommendation
brochure, available free of charge in the Kunsthalle Wien store

The brochure Österreichs kulturelles Erbe (Austria's cultural heritage) by the collective Decolonizing in Vienna! was produced as part of the exhibition Space for Kids. Denk(dir)mal!, which was dedicated to the topic of monuments and memory culture in the fall of 2020.

The brochure, available free of charge in the Kunsthalle Wien store, contains a collection of texts by the collective Decolonizing in Vienna! and photographs by artist Carla Bobadilla on selected monuments, squares and streets in Vienna. They are intended as a reflection tool to gain perspectives on the city that make visible the traces of past relations of domination, especially in the context of a history of colonialism, and relate them to current social debates around interculturality, gender justice, racism.

The brochure is aimed at young people and adults and provides numerous suggestions for thinking about the representation of power and the production of alterity in public space.

Austria's Cultural Heritage is published by the Mediation Department of the Kunsthalle Wien.
