Artistic Perspectives on Cultural Heritage

02.09. – 30.10.2022
Volkskundemuseum Wien, Laudongasse 15-19, 1080 Wien

The exhibition What Matters to Us! brings together 18 artistic positions that raise questions around cultural heritage and contribute to renegotiating it. It is an exemplary, non-representative selection of positions that shift, highlight, critique social valences and open up a space for discussion around contemporary conflicts over the power of cultural definition: The works make suggestions about what is considered "worthy of safeguarding," establish current contexts, radically subjectivize legacy, and also illuminate so-called Difficult Heritage. This includes fascist heritage or questions around looted art/colonialism.

With an extensive accompanying program,
e.g. city walk on Sun, 25.9.2022, 11.00 a.m. and Sun, 26.10.2022, 11.00 a.m.
Decolonizing in Vienna - The walk as a collective method of unlearning.
